Oceans 11 Indicted in California

Seriously this has to be one of the craziest schemes I have ever heard of. Cheating 12 Casinos in multiple states. To me it just sounds like a sure fire way to land yourself in federal prison for a long ass time.

A federal grand jury in San Diego has indicted 11 defendants for an alleged conspiracy to cheat 12 casinos across the country, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division Matthew Friedrich and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California Karen P. Hewitt announced today.

The one-count indictment, handed down in the Southern District of California on Sept. 9, 2008, and unsealed on Sept. 11, 2008, charges Bryan Arce; Don Man Duong; Hogan Ho; Thang Viet Huynh; Outtama Keovongsa; Leap Kong, a/k/a “Lanida Kong;” Qua Le; Khunsela Prom, a/k/a “Danny Prom;” James Root; Darrell Saicocie; and Dan Thich each with one count of conspiracy to commit several offenses against the United States, including conspiracy to steal money and other property from Indian tribal casinos, and conspiracy to travel in interstate and foreign commerce in aid of racketeering.

According to the indictment, from approximately March 2002 through July 2007 the defendants and co-conspirators allegedly formed and participated in a conspiracy, defined in the indictment as the “Tran Organization,” to cheat at gambling in casinos across the United States. The indictment lists 12 casinos that were allegedly targeted by members of the conspiracy, including five casinos that are owned and operated by Indian tribes.

Motor City Casino unveils new entertainment center

The only locally owned and operated casino-hotel in Detroit will debut its complete entertainment destination tonight, celebrating the end of a $300 million, three year expansion and renovation of the site. The project includes the expansion and renovation of the casino’s gaming floor, the building of a 400-room hotel, spa and fine dining restaurant, and the addition of a 1,886 seat live entertainment theater, expansive meeting space, retail areas and several food outlets.

This has been a huge project for all of Detroit as well as it means locally expanding business and residential projects in and around Detroit.

MotorCity Casino to get lofts nearby

I have always stressed that casinos bring value to local real estate and in the Motor City it appears a new residential project is in the works as a result of a constant growing casino.

Developers unveiled plans today for a new upscale loft residential project in downtown Detroit not far from Motor City Casino.

Known as the 1015 Spruce St. project, the development would offer 93 loft condominiums carved out of the historic Detroit Creamery Building, a 1914 industrial structure designed by architect Albert Kahn near the Lodge Freeway and Grand River.

Penn Gaming Drops Plans To Manage Kansas Casino

Penn Gamings plans to manage a Kansas Casino were dropped earlier this week after they reevaluated the location and competition in the area.

The only company to show an interest in running a state-owned casino in Cherokee County has dropped its plans, leaving southeast Kansas without anything to show for its long support for gambling.

Penn National Gaming Inc. said Thursday that its proposed casino in Cherokee County could not compete with a casino so close to the state line in Oklahoma that its parking lot is in Kansas. That venture, operated by the Quapaw Tribe, opened this summer.

Sunny California Casinos

You would like to think all casinos are bad. But in the case of Southern Californias Casinos I tend to think they are a plus because truthfully they give back to the community where they exist.

– If there’s one true thing about casinos, it’s that they all feel alike. Walk through that big smoked-glass door and you know where you are in an instant. The casino floor, where the money is won and lost, could be just about anywhere. Day is indistinguishable from night. Digital beeps drone incessantly, and the rat-tat-tat of coins on metal remind losers that somebody else is winning.

Some Indian casinos are as simple as a gaming hall with a restaurant; others are complete resorts. Some tribes spend their profits on their members, providing attractive homes, building schools and community centers, surfacing roads, installing water-reclamation plants and paying for health insurance and college scholarships.

Australian Casino Lease is merely 1 dollar

Dude this is hilarious one casino lease is merely 1 dollar. Seriously that has to be a great deal for some prime real estate.

The Packer-controlled Publishing and Broadcasting Limited (PBL) pays rent of just $1 a year for its Crown casino complex in Melbourne.

A Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation report, tabled in parliament on Thursday, reveals Crown’s owners will pay $1 a year for its Southbank site for the first 40 years of its 99 year lease and market value for the remaining years, Fairfax newspapers reported on Friday.

Crown entered the lease in 1993.

The casino made $370.1 million in profit last year, from $2.03 billion in revenue.

Crown spokesman Gary O’Neill told Fairfax the casino site was a “derelict piece of land, which had been unused for a long period and couldn’t be built on until it was cleaned up”.

Kansas City Tribal Casino Wins Court Case

Some court cases are just meant to go away as was the case in a 12 year old court case in Kansas City.

Kansas’s 12-year-old legal challenge to the 7th Street Casino in Kansas City, Kan., has been dismissed by a federal judge on a technicality _ again.

This time, however, the case may finally be done.

“This case is moot,” said U.S. District Court Judge Richard D. Rogers in a 23-page decision made public Thursday that turned on the issue of the federal government’s sovereign immunity from lawsuits brought against it.

It was unclear Thursday whether state officials and three of Kansas four competing tribes with casinos that joined in the state’s challenge will appeal.

If the case is finally clear of the federal courts, the Oklahoma-based Wyandotte Nation that owns the casino said it will seek a formal compact with the state under federal law to upgrade gambling at its Kansas facility from the current 500 Class II bingo-based slot machines to full scale Class III slot machines and table games.

Philadelphia to get boost from new casinos

Philadelphias economy is likely to get a good boost from 1 casino moving and 2 possibly new casinos. This would boost property values and bring wage tax relief in the Philly Metro Area. Although I am skeptical that a casino is the fix all for these problems.

Opening of 2 Southeast Casinos Would Boost Property, Wage Tax Relief
Joined by Mayor Michael Nutter and other Philadelphia-elected officials this afternoon, Governor Edward G. Rendell commented on a proposal announced today to relocate the Foxwoods Casino.
“If approved, this approach could speed up the opening of the facility, generate hundreds of jobs, serve as an economic catalyst in downtown Philadelphia and boost statewide property tax relief and wage tax relief in Philadelphia,” Governor Rendell said.

Kansas City Riverboat Casinos Surge On

Riverboat Casinos in Missouri are all the rage atleast in revenue. Although they have taken a turn for the worse in the number of customers who have jumped onboard.

The Kansas City area’s four riverboat casinos recorded slightly higher combined revenue despite a lower customer count for August compared with last year, the Missouri Gaming Commission said Wednesday.

The Kansas City market recorded $62 million in August revenue, up 1.2 percent from $61.3 million last year. The combined customer count for the four casinos was 913,050, down 1.6 percent from 927,812 last year.

The company that was stripped of its ownership of Tropicana Casino and Resort nine months ago will try to regain control of the troubled property now that it has restructured its management ranks and board of directors.
As expected, Tropicana Entertainment LLC filed papers Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court stating that it plans to ask the New Jersey Casino Control Commission to give it back ownership. The Press of Atlantic City reported in July that the company would make such a request.
